AVIS, Calif. – UC Davis record-setting running back Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr., has been invited to participate in the Miami Dolphins Rookie Minicamp, the organization confirmed on Friday. The two-day camp begins today and concludes on Saturday.
The only three-time captain in program history was named to the AP second team, STATS Perform and HERO Sports All-American squads. The senior rushed for 1,180 yards and 13 touchdowns to rank second in the Big Sky in yards and third in touchdowns on the ground.
The Merced native also hauled in a team-best 50 passes for 366 yards. His 1,554 all-purpose yards ranked second in the Big Sky.
Gilliam, Jr., leaves Davis as the all-time leading rusher and career record-holder in all-purpose yards, scoring and career touchdowns.
The Dolphins finished 9-8 overall and were the No. 7 seed in the AFC Playoffs, falling to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild-Card round, 34-31.
UC Davis will open the 2023 season on the road at Texas A&M – Commerce. The season-opener is slated for Thursday, Aug. 31, in Commerce, Texas. Football season tickets are now on sale. Call the UC Davis Ticket Office at 530-752-2471 for more information.

The UC Davis football program continues to place student-athletes on All-American lists as three more Aggies were bestowed the honor from Stats Perform. Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr., Nick Amoah, and Rex Connors garnered the accolade from the website on Tuesday.
All three have been tabbed to at least one All-American list this postseason, as the Stats Perform honor is the third for Gilliam, Jr.

The senior was named to the second team at the all-purpose spot after running for 1,180 yards and 13 touchdowns to rank second in the league in yards and third in touchdowns on the ground. CAREER RECORD WATCH: Enters 2022 ranked 2nd in career rushing (3,435), needing 155 yards on the ground to surpass G.P. Muhammad’s (1995-98) mark of 3,589… Also sits 2nd in all-purpose yards (4,480), just 150 behind Muhammad’s record of (4,629)… Enters season with 164 career receptions to rank ninth all-time… Also ranks ninth in scoring with 231 points – fourth all-time among UC Davis non-kickers… Brady Stuart (2012-15) holds the Aggie record with 274 career points.

MERCED HS ’17: Played football, baseball and basketball… Two-year team captain for football team under head coach Rob Scheidt… Garnered All-Central California Conference first-team distinction at both running back and defensive back in 2016… Rushed for 1,597 yards with 30 touchdowns on 170 carries as a senior, which led to league Offensive Player of the Year honoree… Posted 103 tackles (64 solos, 39 assists) with 2 forced fumbles and 2 recoveries on defense… Averaged 17.1 yards per punt return… Led team to CCC championships in 2014 and 2015… Also helped Bears to 40 combined wins and state playoff berth in first two basketball seasons… Scored 232 points with 47 assists as a freshman, garnering second-team All-CCC accolades… Claimed CCC All-Academic distinction each year… Named MHS Student of the Year as a sophomore… Also took part in school’s AVID (advancement via individual determination) program all four years.
