This July 2021, the Merced Black Parallel School Board (MBPSB) will celebrate its third anniversary as an organization advocating for Black students and parents in the Merced area.

The MBPSB and friends consist of former teachers, district personnel, community activists, and parents. Working with the Sacramento Black Parallel School Board and attending Central Valley Movement Building (CVMB) forums, the Merced group has also been successful in actively attending school board meetings, including Atwater, Merced City, Merced Union High School, and Weaver Union Districts and making recommendations for the districts' LCAPs.

Though their LCAP recommendations only received a total budget of $131,000 out of a total joint LCAP budget of $143,000,000 over three years for the four districts, it’s a huge accomplishment for a group that’s only been in existence for three years.

MBPSB members continue to address problems of the high suspension rates of Black students, and the lack of adequate support for Black special education students and students with disabilities.

Educational Equity Matters The Black Parallel School Board (BPSB) is a community organization developed to work parallel to the Merced Area School Boards. Its major responsibility is to support the educational growth and achievement of Black students.

Join the ranks of parents and community members working together to advocate for an effective, affirming, high quality education for our African American students.

MBPSB meets every second Thursday 6- 8 p.m. Contact:[email protected]
