‘Dogs inching closer to Spring Preview as another week comes to a close

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State football team closed out the second-to-last week of its spring football schedule on Friday with its second scrimmage. It was the 11th practice of 15 opportunities, which will wrap on April 30.

"Scrimmage number two is the books, and I thought it was a more physical scrimmage and that was the challenge going into the week," head coach Kalen DeBoer said. "We had our base install last week, and we were looking at the challenges of what we wanted to be better at going into this week, and I challenged the guys to be better in a physical, toughness piece, and I thought Wednesday was that and set the tone [for today]."

The 'Dogs held its first scrimmage last Friday, an approximately 88-play scrimmage, while this day's was leveled down to approximately 76 plays. The team ran drives from its own 25-yard line, midfield, and the defense's 25-yard line in its last scrimmage before the finale next Friday.

"A lot of great stuff to learn from," DeBoer said. "It was kind of a different tone in just the way it worked out from the scrimmage a week ago. Probably a lot more passing last week, and a bit more balanced this week. A lot of good stuff for both sides of the ball to improve on."

Spring Preview closed to General Public The general public will NOT be permitted to the Bulldogs' final spring practice due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, a limited number of guests of the players and coaches will be allowed into Bulldog Stadium.

"It's exciting for them," DeBoer said. "I got a chance to announce it before their lift [on Wednesday] and Coach McKeefery said that the lift had a little more energy. The guys are fired up. If you think back, maybe some family saw their sons play against UNLV, but other than that, you have to go back to November of 2019. It's been a long time for some of these guys as far as their families seeing them play, especially here at Bulldog Stadium."
