Unity of Merced proudly presents film, television, and stage personality Stogie Kenyatta’s acclaimed NAACP Award-Winning solo show about African-American artist-activist Paul Robeson. This entertaining, laugh-out-loud, music-filled show where Kenyatta plays 12 characters and ages from 5-60 is profoundly moving.
With audience participation callouts, Kenyatta discusses his friendships with Langston Hughes, Albert Einstein, Cab Calloway, and many artists who contributed to the Harlem Renaissance.
Like Robeson’s life, this prestigious show serves as a Cultural Ambassador, inspiring us to greater achievement & a more noble life. Robeson graduated Valedictorian in 1919 from Rutgers University & got a Law Degree from Columbia, passing the New York Bar in 1922 and becoming the first Negro lawyer with a New York Law firm. An All-American Football player who played in the early NFL was inducted into the NFL HALL OF FAME in 1995 and spoke ten languages fluently.
Jamaican-born and Brooklyn-bred Stogie Kenyatta has been seen on everything from sitcoms and films to soap operas, from Bernie Mac and Jake and the Fat Man to HBO’s Tyson (Co-star) to The Bold and the Beautiful. He co-headlined a USO comedy tour in Tokyo, Japan, and Okinawa. “The World Is My Home—The Life of Paul Robeson” had its first performance at the National Civil Rights Museum. It has become the number one show on the American college scene, honoring a great American hero.
“The World is My Home—The Life of Paul Robeson” has been performed at over 100 Universities in over a dozen countries. Stogie Kenyatta, one of the top Pan-African Teaching Artists in the world, offers a Master class on how the Arts and culture forced the globe to recognize our shared humanity. Kenyatta’s mission is to use the Arts as a powerful vehicle for social change, uplift, inspire, and positively impact. This show will leave you feeling inspired and hopeful for a better future.
