“Writing Ourselves In” proudly lifts up the voices of African American elders and residents of Modesto/Stanislaus County, stories carried through time, spoken aloud and written with care. Here, oral histories become art, photos and artifacts become memory, and memory becomes archive.

In this space, we celebrate lived experience becoming legacy, woven together to honor those who came before, those who remain, and those still becoming.

We listen.
We remember.
We write ourselves in.
