The Merced County Rescue Mission is gearing up to help the less fortunate during the holiday season.
The organization will hold its traditional Thanksgiving banquet from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24 at the American Legion Hall, 939 W Main St. in downtown Merced. Volunteers are welcome.
A banquet will also be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Christmas Eve.
The Rescue Mission is accepting donations during its Annual Holiday Food Drive to make the meals possible and help throughout the year, according to the organization’s website.
All non-perishable food is appreciated. Most needed items for banquets include stuffing mix, cans of cranberries, corn and green beans.
Items are being collected at 644 W 20th St. in Merced. Businesses or churches interested in helping can call Anthony Choza (209) 947-8493 to arrange for a barrel.
