Happy New Year Merced

Happy twenty twenty four

I wish you all the best this year

And pray for you evermore

I pray that in January and February

We come together in celebration

Of Dr King and of Black History

For awareness and education

I pray that in March for women’s History

And for the Resurrection of Christ

We remember the struggles of those before us

And the one who paid the ultimate price

I pray that in April, May, June and July

As we celebrate our cultures and peace

That we continue to cheer for each other

So that jealousy and hatred will cease

I pray that in August and September

As summers ends and a new school year begins

That our students are blessed with housing

And the love of family and friends

I pray that in October and November

As we prepare to go to the polls

To vote on the future of Merced and America

That our decision is what’s best for our souls

I pray that in December

There’s peace all over Merced again

I will pray without ceasing

In Jesus Holy name. Amen

Merry Christmas Merced and a Happy New Year

Poet Laureate, Ms. Joyce

Merry Christmas Merced

From your Poet Laureate, Ms. Joyce

Thank you for your cheers and encouragement

Every time you heard my voice

The Lord blessed me to be able to

Poetically share love and peace

It is an honor to come before you

Whether it’s happiness or grief

I pray for words to comfort a family

After the loss of one of their own

I pray for those that are missing

That they find their way back home.

I pray for people I pass on the street

As I share my God given smile

I pray for peace and love everyday

Not just for a little while.

Christmas time is a happy time

For most people …. It’s been said

It’s the reason for the season

Let’s change that here in Merced

Let’s make the season last all year

It’s easy and it’s free

Just remember whose we are

That is your Christmas gift from me.
